have awarded Following Prices

1. Prize: BORDER Laura Waddington

"Border" makes a strong political statement and at the same time finds a convincing form to do so. While Laura Waddington supplies but the most nessessary information she offers a large amount of high quality experience. Neither are the protagonists individualized nor is the drama of their fate made into a story but on the contrary is strongly reduced. The images speak for themselves in a visual language emanating from Waddingtons own experience of having spent ample time with the refugees. By means of an ever so slight formal alienation her film is taken out of the context of documentary news and is given a lyrical quality.

2. Prize: LEGAL ERRORIST Mara Mattuschka

"Legal Errorist" is a performance video but not merely a recorded performance. Starting from a choreography of Chris Haring's for the Canadian dancer Stephanie Cumming, director Mara Mattuschka develops a cinematographic translation. In high-contrast black and white and a very sophisticated direction of light she visually stages the body in strange twists and torment and in verbal staccato outbursts one cannot escape.

3. Prize: NUUK Thomas Köner

"Nuuk" is a simple but profound film, which makes do with one single washed-out shot taken by a webcam. In the snowy landscape of Greenland Köner shows the hamlet of Nuuk in changing light, which by all means complies with classic demands of rendering landscapes yet undermines them by way of denying visual expectations. The soundtrack is an integral part of the video. Without fully transcending the images the music passes just as imperceptibly as light and time do.

Special mention GRAU Robert Seidel

A spezial mention to GRAU for its inventive and technically virtuoso digital metamorphoses emanating from a scientific background yet broadening it in a fascinating manner of unfolding an aesthetic spectacle.

Awarded the following Prices:

1. Prize GIB MER Grrrr (Ingo Giezendanner)

"Gib mer" is the result of a felicitous cooperation between the artist Ingo Giezendanner aka Grrrr, the female rapper Big Zis and the musician Domenico Ferrari. Grrrrs lineal drawing style perpetuates Big Zis' political text without chumming up to the richness of her lingual imagery. The outcome is a video in one pour, which not without self mockery relishes in ironic criticism of today's consumism.
Joining of two independent styles of music and drawing into a cheerful and accomplished bashing of our consumer society, the jury regards as excellent.

Special Mention STERNE Bettina Disler

Snug in deep black a flowerlike yet undefinable something hovers and stirred by the music begins to pulsate and breathe. Yet it remains a mystery what exactly this body is which comes to life to the minimal sounds of Bernd Schurer's adaptation of Eric Satie's Vexations. It is a creature which can only become of film.
It is unique how Bettina Disler's images in "Sterne" almost symbiotically draw near the music while remaining an independent cinematographic work.
